Tatiana Gutierrez a.k.a. Pispirispis – Writer, Editor and Dreamer
With a degree in communications, a solid background working for some of the biggest media in the country, and a love for entrepreneurship – Tatiana couldn’t be more well-qualified.
She has always worked as an editor. But, her true passion is owning her own business while finding new and creative ways to awaken people to the appreciation of the written word. Enter innovation!
We caught up with Tatiana to talk to her about her passion for the region and culture of Caldas which has inspired several of the books she offers. Beautiful type-sets, elegant yet expressive pictures and a whimsical design set her publications apart from the crowd.
What is a Pispirispis?
She explains to us that in the local dialect, a pispirispis is something small and fleeting – like a dream, a thought or even a fairy. As a young girl, she was very petite and her mother always called her pispirispis. This became the inspiration for the name of her small business in Manizales, Caldas.
Thoughts About Life, Publishing and Entrepreneurship
A lover of the written word Tatiana shared with us some of her wisdom and advice for up and coming writers and entrepreneurs.
“El Verdadero tesoro de la humanidad es los libros.” / The true treasure of humanity are books.
Tatiana Guitierrez, Editor of Editorials Pispirispis
Her biggest commitment as a writer/editor, is preserving the culture and wisdom of the Department of Caldas, Colombia – her heritage, and her home.
Like any up and coming entrepreneur, the hardest part is often financial. It’s a constant struggle to learn how to run a business, keep the books and pay the costs of life, but its one that we all share. As a result she has learned the importance of community, and works to use the talent of people in this region.

Every two years, the pueblo of Rio Sucio celebrates the Carnaval of the Devil. Ironically, it is a festival that came from a conflict which was tearing this community apart. At one point a priest said “God save us or the Devil take us,” and the carnival was born. This is a book designed especially for the next generation to help them understand the cultural context and story behind one of the biggest cultural celebrations in Colombia.
